Jacksonville commuters are dealing with a rough stretch of road conditions today, as a string of fresh accidents and long-running construction projects pile pressure on nearly every major corridor in the region.
One of the more disruptive early reports involves J.T. Butler Boulevard eastbound, where a crash has left the on-ramp from I-95 partially blocked in the Southside corridor, slowing access for drivers headed toward the beaches.
For rush-hour regulars on SR-202, the timing couldn't be worse.
The East Beltway (I-295 South) northbound near Gate Parkway is seeing its own trouble, with a disabled vehicle on the shoulder and a separate debris hazard reported between the I-95 interchange and Philips Highway.
Over on Union Street, a crash in the eastbound lanes just past Main Street is generating stop-and-go traffic trailing back toward Broad Street.
The larger story, though, is what's unfolding on I-95 — and it's been building for months.
State transportation officials are deep into a major I-95 road construction project running from south of Emerson Street to Atlantic Boulevard, aimed at widening the interstate to ten lanes through Jacksonville's busiest urban stretch.
That work is expected to reshape daily commutes for years before its completion.
A second construction zone at King Parkway is also impacting I-95 in both directions through approximately the next week.
Bridge maintenance Jacksonville crews from FDOT are actively working the Pottsburg Creek Bridge on Atlantic Boulevard and the Little Pottsburg Creek Bridge along the Hart Expressway in St. Nicholas.
Paving operations on Beach Boulevard, Philips Highway, and in Orange Park along Park Avenue are all carrying multi-week timelines, adding more friction to an already congested network.
Clay County drivers should also expect restrictions on Blanding Boulevard northbound, where construction runs from south of Wells Road to the Ortega River area.
Right now, a good alternate route isn't just helpful — it's essential for any Jacksonville commuter trying to stay ahead of the delays. |

At least when the I-95 widening is done it should make a real difference. That stretch between Emerson and Atlantic is brutal every single day.
Park Avenue paving has my whole neighborhood stressed out. Nobody can get in or out without sitting forever.
My husband works near the Atlantic Boulevard exit on 95. He has just been working from home on Fridays because the commute is unbearable.
I switched to leaving the house at 6am just to beat all of this and now even that is not working anymore.
Union Street by Main is always something. Every single week there is an incident there.
Blanding Boulevard in Clay County is rough too. That stretch near Wells Road backs up so bad you start to think you parked the car.
The Pottsburg Creek Bridge work has had me rerouting my whole morning. Glad they are fixing it though.
Anybody else just taking San Jose as a detour now? Not perfect but way better than sitting on 95 in all that construction.

I live right off Gate Parkway and the 295 situation this morning was awful. Took me 45 minutes just to get to the highway.
Ten lanes sounds great until you realize it will take years and years to get there. Just hang on folks.
That J.T. Butler on-ramp has been a nightmare for months even without a crash. Add one and forget it.
I will be so glad when they finish all this I-95 work. It feels like it has been going on forever.
